A gentlemen’s guide to facial aesthetics
Defined facial features are the hallmark of masculinity. Anatomically, there are key differences between male and female facial characteristics. Men tend to have more square faces with larger foreheads, more angled upper brows and more prominent glabellas (area of skin between the eyebrows and above the nose). The male eyebrow is usually thicker and heavier, rests at the superior orbital rim and has a smaller arch whereas female eyebrows rest higher than the superior orbital rim and have a greater peak and arch. Men also have a shorter eyelid crease and more fullness of their upper eyelids. When analyzing the center of the face or midface, men typically have a straighter nasal profile and less nasal tip rotation than women. Additionally, a strong jawline and prominent chin are attractive features equated with manliness. Understanding these fundamentals, plastic surgeons at HIM are able to achieve male facial harmony and balance.
