How you prepare for your cosmetic surgery is just as important as your recovery. We will provide you with a list of instructions to follow to achieve the best possible results, but some of these directions will include:

• Practice good healthcare: Stay well rested and hydrated, and ensure your medical conditions such as blood pressure are optimized. 
• Prep your home: Make sure you have food prepared and your streaming content saved. Surgery can take a lot out of you, so the more you set yourself up for comfort, the better your recovery will be. Plan ahead and thank yourself later.
• Stop smoking and drinking: Alcohol and tobacco can cause unnecessary complications during surgery, so we encourage you to stop tobacco use six weeks prior to surgery and to refrain from alcohol use one week before surgery. If you have any concerns or issues, please discuss them with your surgeon.

Revision surgery is performed under sedation anesthesia, meaning that you are asleep and feel no pain during the procedure. After surgery, it is common to feel soreness and discomfort as the skin tissue heals. Your plastic surgeon will prescribe pain medications to help ease your discomfort. These are typically only needed for the first few days, after which you can switch to over-the-counter painkillers.

In addition to your consultations and surgery date, you will need to return to the office somewhat regularly in the coming months so that our team can ensure your incisions are healing properly and that no complications have arisen. After revision surgery, it is important to remain patient, as results can take time to emerge fully. This is because swelling and bruising may temporarily obscure your facial contours as you heal. Most patients can enjoy visible changes within 2-4 weeks, understanding that it will take longer than that for all residual swelling to disappear.

Avoid air travel for about one week. This extended recovery time helps minimize swelling and reduces the risk of complications, ensuring your healing process goes smoothly. Your surgeon will provide personalized guidelines based on your progress, so it is important to follow them closely.

Taking 2 to 3 weeks off work is recommended for most patients after a secondary facelift. This allows sufficient time for initial healing and for settling any swelling or bruising. If your job is physically demanding, you may need to take additional time off to ensure a full and safe recovery.

We recommend waiting at least 4 to 6 weeks before resuming strenuous exercise after a revision facelift such as golfing, pickleball and tennis. Light activities, such as walking, can usually be resumed sooner, but avoiding anything that could strain your healing tissue is crucial.
