What is a Revision Facelift?

When the results of a primary facelift  become less apparent with time, or do not meet the patient’s expectations, either due to surgical error or complications, a revision surgery can be performed to correct outstanding cosmetic issues and improve facial contour. Similar to the initial procedure, a revision facelift seeks to trim excess skin, reduce the appearance of jowls, and erase age-related wrinkles, folds, and lines. Our world-class plastic surgeons utilize specialized techniques and meticulous attention to detail in order to exceed your expectations for excellence. Common reasons for pursuing a revision facelift include:

  • The original facelift results have faded
  • To improve poor scaring
  • To gain more natural results
  • To correct asymmetries
  • Recurrent signs of facial aging such as jowling and sagging skin

What Are the Benefits of a Male Revision Facelift?

Revision surgery can be deeply satisfying for patients who are not happy with the results of their first facelift and who wish to seek a refreshed appearance. Benefits include:

  • Firms lax skin
  • Tightens the jowls
  • Smooths midface folds
  • Creates more youthful-looking contours
  • Natural-looking changes
  • Enhances facial features
  • Improves unsatisfactory results from initial surgery

Am I a Candidate For a Male Revision Facelift?

If you have undergone a traditional full facelift, a deep plane facelift, a mid facelift or mini facelift in the past and wish to enhance or correct your previous results, a secondary procedure may be the right approach for your goals. However, it is critical that you wait at least 12 months after the initial surgery to allow for complete healing of all muscle, skin, and tissue. Ideal candidates for a revision facelift:

  • Are in good health with no active infections or skin disorders
  • Are non-smokers or are willing to quit for at least 4-6 weeks before and after surgery
  • Are experiencing poor scarring due to improper technique or poor wound healing
  • Have endured facelift results that don’t look natural and balanced
  • Need a revision due to the aging process or maintenance of their original results
  • Have realistic expectations for improvement

Let’s Get Started

What’s the First Step in Getting a Revision Facelift?

As a first step, you will need to meet with our team in Dallas for a private consultation so we can assess the results of your primary surgery, examine your skin quality, texture and position, and thoroughly review your medical history. Once your candidacy is confirmed, we will schedule your surgery date. You may be asked to discontinue certain medications, and follow eating and drinking guidelines the night before surgery, all with the intent of ensuring your procedure is performed safely and effectively. In addition, you should arrange for a family member or close friend to drive you home after your procedure since you will still be groggy from anesthesia.

What to Expect on the Day of Revision Facelift Surgery

Secondary facelift surgery is performed under monitored sedation anesthesia similar to a colonoscopy or wisdom tooth removal. In most cases, your surgeon will be able to use your previous incisions to perform your revision face lift surgery. During the surgery, your plastic surgeon will reposition your skin, remove scar tissue, and address areas of facial asymmetry or imbalance. Your incisions will then be closed with minimal tension to achieve minimal inconspicuous scarring. A revision facelift can take a few hours depending on the patients’ facial anatomy, areas of concern and aesthetic goals.

What is Recovery Like After Revision Facelift Surgery?

The recovery process after revision facelift can vary depending on facial anatomy, patient age, patient health conditions and extent of surgery. Most patients can expect a few weeks of healing time. Swelling, bruising, and tenderness in the facial tissue usually peaks in the first 24-72 hours and can be managed well with both prescription and over-the-counter pain medications. Making sure to keep the head elevated, even while sleeping, and avoiding strenuous activities will increase healing and speed up the recovery process. Your surgeon will see you for regular follow-up visits to monitor your healing, remove any sutures and guide your recovery process.
