Buccal Fat Removal

Like any procedure we offer at HIM Plastic Surgery, what you do before your operation can make a difference. After your consultation, we will provide you with a list of instructions to follow before your buccal fat removal, which will include the following:

• Prepare your home: The last thing you want to worry about is what you are going to do with all this downtime. Although you may be inclined to get things done, you must take this time to relax. Ensure you have entertainment readily available and have some meals prepared to recover comfortably.

• Make some lifestyle changes: You will be asked to stop smoking and limit alcohol consumption for a few weeks before the procedure. You should also avoid blood-thinning medications and supplements, like aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and some multivitamins, for two to four days before surgery. Maintaining a healthy diet is also important to your body’s ability to heal.

• Arrange for a ride: This is extremely important because you will be under the effects of sedation. You should find a family member or friend to take you to and from the surgical center. It is also recommended that you have a responsible adult available to help out for the first day or so. 

Men undergoing buccal fat removal can expect swelling and discomfort after sedation from their procedure has worn off. However, this can be managed by applying an ice pack or taking over-the-counter pain medication. Please let your surgeon at  HIM Plastic Surgery know as soon as possible after your procedure if you are experiencing any other adverse effects.

Most men are able to see results as their swelling gradually decreases between three and six weeks after surgery.

Most men can return to work or school within a few days of their procedure. Your surgeon will monitor your recovery and provide insight into when you can expect to return.

Healing is important, so do not rush your recovery! Men can expect to resume light activities, like walking, within the first few days after surgery. You should be able to casually resume your workout routine two to three weeks after your surgery, but please listen to your plastic surgeon’s recommendations to avoid any complications.
